Done

It's done. I gave notice today.

I definitely worked myself up for nothing. My colleagues were very supportive and it was great to finally discuss my plans. It is such a big part of my life and they had an inkling something was going on. What a relief. Two of them even confessed their long-standing medical aspirations. I wasn't expecting that. I guess they are in public health for the same reason I am - to impact health as much as possible without a medical degree.

The moving preparations are in full swing. I am gathering the items I need for the island and I think I am most excited to get my first stethoscope - a Littmann Cardio III in burgundy, black, or plum! Scrubs too! Woo-hoo..

The other, most important preparation is just talking to the boys about it so there are a lot of questions. Will there be another school? Are we all going together? My oldest was a little upset because he thought his friends were going to be able to move to Grenada with him. We went over the "friends are friends forever" mantra while the little one just chimes in at random times "I gonna be doctor." So, they know we are going far away and whenever we pass a body of water, the kids ask "is that the ocean?" So, more and more talking = more and more prepared.

Both of them are overjoyed that we will be staying with Grandma and Grandpa over the summers and I am also ecstatic that I will have some time off too. Maternity leave is not really a vacation and the other trips we took over the years were to weddings, to see family, go on my 2 med school interviews, or to go to IKEA, but not a nice long break. From the looks of it, I am going to need all the time I can to relax and recuperate from anatomy, biochem, and physio.

Tennis, anyone?
